Jurassic World Rebirth, the seventh entry in the legendary franchise, boldly reimagines the series under director Gareth Edwards. The movie sheds its familiar theme park framework in favour of an expedition to a long-abandoned genetic research facility. The mission centres on extracting dinosaur DNA to cure human disease. It retains core themes of unchecked scientific progress and corporate greed.

The movie excels with breathtaking VFX and creature design. Mutated hybrids like the Distortus rex tap into genuine horror territory. However, its storyline struggles to match the narrative weight of earlier instalments. The shift from survival thriller to expedition drama offers potential, but the characters lack depth and the pacing stutters. The inclusion of a parallel subplot involving a shipwrecked family diverts attention from the main arc and weakens overall cohesion.

1. The invisible plot structure of Jurassic World Rebirth

1A. The script of Jurassic World Rebirth borrows 88% of its events from 4 mythological tales

The desire for finding an elusive object/person drives Zora’s quest for Expedition. The quest borrows events from the tale of Jason in Greek mythology. Similar to Jason’s quest for The Golden Fleece, Zora embarks on retrieving the DNA.

Krebs’ quest is driven by selfishness. The quest borrows events from the tale of Valmiki in Hindu mythology. Both Valmiki & Krebs are self-centred and don’t care about the interest of others.

Duncan’s loyalty to one’s clan/order borrows events from the tale of Hanuman in Hindu mythology. Hanuman & Duncan demonstrate unquestioned loyalty even showing a willingness to sacrifice themselves to protect their friends.

The desire to be in a safe environment drives Reuben’s underdeveloped quest of Tranquillity. The quest borrows few events from the tale of Odysseus in Greek mythology. Both Odysseus and Reuben navigate hostile territory with the help of others.

Henry doesn’t have a quest.

NOTE: Detailed mirroring of each character’s primary quest to their respective mythological tales is in section “3A. Quests of characters and their mythological counterparts”

Tales interweaved

Valmiki, Jason, Hanuman & Odysseus

I. How does interweaving mythological tales lead to infinite story plots?
II. Can the pursuit of a Desire have more than one quest?

2. Potential of Jurassic World Rebirth's plot structure: $179 – 233MM

The interweaving of 32 mythological tales can generate a billion unique stories. By using these 32 tales, we can extract the plot structure of any story across various genres. Our study of blockbuster, hit, and flop plot structures led to the discovery of the Mythosis Code. The Code is a set of principles for creating compelling stories. These storytelling principles reveal the strength of a story’s plot structure.

2A. Plot structure evaluation of Jurassic World Rebirth

For instance, an example of interweaving the quests of Zora & Duncan:

The script of Jurassic World Rebirth interweaves the tales of Hanuman & Jason

2B. Box office revenue estimation of Jurassic World Rebirth

The plot structure is built around Zora’s quest which is interwoven with shallow quests of both Duncan & Krebs. A substantial screen time is dedicated to the Delgado family but their quest is not interwoven into the story. The lack of interweaving makes the script disjointed and weakens the plot structure.

The Script Score measures the potency of a plot structure. Higher its adherence to the principles of Mythosis Code, greater is the potency. The Script Score helps estimate a movie’s audience appeal & revenues. Blockbuster plot structures have a score of at least 0.64 and appeal to 20% of the audiences.

II. Aren’t box-office revenues influenced by several factors beyond just the story plot?

3. The ideal plot structure of Jurassic World Rebirth

We have identified 32 mythological tales. These are the superset of all tales across cultures. The quests of these tales have recurred over time periods. They represent human behaviours embedded in our shared memories. Each tale is the richest expression of the pursuit of a human desire. The tales have a unique pattern of events spread over 5 major arcs.

32 mythological tales strengthen the story and unlock its hidden potential. First, we map a character’s quest to the relevant mythological tale. This exercise reveals the gaps in their quest, if any. Second, identify missing events to plug the gaps. Plugging gaps deepens the character quest. Third, use missing events to strengthen the interweaving between various quests.

3A. Quest of characters and their mythological counterparts

Quest 1: Zora mirrors the universal quest for Expedition

Zora’s desire for Expedition stems from the need to find an elusive person/object. The tale of Jason from Greek mythology is the universal quest for Expedition.

Quest 2: Duncan mirrors the universal quest for Honour

Duncan’s desire for Honour stems from the need to be loyal. The tale of Hanuman from Hindu mythology is the universal quest for Honour.

Quest 3: Krebs mirrors the universal quest for Accumulation

Krebs’ desire for Accumulation stems from the need to collect and own. The tale of Valmiki from Hindu mythology has a robust expression in Dicken’s character of Scrooge which is the universal quest for Accumulation.

  • The quests of Zora, Duncan and Krebs could have been developed further.
  • Reuben’s quest is a distraction that takes away from the story.
  • Henry an important character doesn’t have a quest.

The untapped brilliance of Jurassic World Rebirth emerges when framed through Mythosis Plot Structure #4,272. It is a layered story plot that fuses legendary archetypes from Valmiki, Jason & the Argonauts and Hanuman. In this reimagined lens:

  • Krebs embodies the self-centredness of Valmiki
  • Zora and Duncan’s crew echo the adventurous spirit of Jason & the Argonauts
  • Henry channels the strength and devotion of Hanuman. A deeper quest than Duncan’s.

This mythic alignment enriches the existing story beyond its surface narrative. It crafts a tapestry of three distinct but harmonized quests of Accumulation, Expedition, and Honor.

By weaving in missing events from these universal tales, the structure strengthens character motivations and interlinks the quests with greater narrative cohesion. With this refined mythological underpinning, the story transforms from a fragmented adventure into a compelling story. Even in the absence of the Delgado subplot.

The result? A franchise entry that could unlock new audience engagement and drive lifetime domestic box office revenues of $764–844 million.
