1. The invisible plot structure of Furiosa

1A. The script of Furiosa borrows 97% of its events from 4 mythological tales

Mary’s quest mirrors the tale of Demeter from Greek mythology, where both are driven by the desire to protect their loved ones. Demeter recovers an abducted Persephone from the Underworld. Mary recovers an abducted Furiosa from Dementus’ den.

Dementus’ quest mirrors the tale of Circe from Greek mythology, where both are driven by the desire to dominate others. Circe uses witchcraft to control others. Dementus utilizes deceitful tactics to gain dominance.

Furiosa’s quest mirrors the tale of Odysseus from Greek mythology, where both are driven by the desire to return home. Odysseus is lost at sea and longs to return to Ithaca. Furiosa is stuck in the wastelands and longs to return to the oasis.

Furiosa also mirrors events from the tale of Dron from Hindu mythology. Dron plans to defeat Dhrupad to avenge his humiliation. Furiosa kills Dementus to avenge her mother’s execution.

Jack has an underdeveloped quest of loyalty.

Immortan Joe’s quest of vengeance is negligible.

NOTE: Detailed mirroring of each character’s primary quest to their respective mythological tales is in section “3A. Quests of characters and their mythological counterparts”

Here is an example of interweaving the quests of Furiosa & Dementus:

2B. Box office revenue estimation of Furiosa

Furiosa’s plot structure suffers from character inconsistency since Furiosa’s quest is made up of multiple quests. Moreover, none of the quests have sufficient depth because of which characters lack complexity and are unidimensional. Lastly, the interweaving between quests is below par which results in a disjointed sequence of events.

The Script Score measures a plot structure’s  adherence to the four principles of Mythosis Code. We use the Script Score to estimate a movie’s audience appeal & revenues. Blockbuster plot structures have a score of at least 0.64 and appeal to 20% of the audiences.

3. The ideal plot structure of Furiosa

We have identified 32 mythological tales, the superset of all tales across cultures. The quests of these tales have also recurred over time periods. They represent human behaviours that are deeply embedded in our shared memories. Each tale is the richest expression of the pursuit of a human desire. The tales have a unique pattern of events spread over 5 major arcs.

Mapping a character’s quest to the relevant mythological tale reveals the gaps in their quest, if any. Plugging these gaps with the missing events deepens the character quest. The missing events also provide an opportunity for interweaving the various quests. These events strengthen the story and unlock its hidden potential.
